Experiencing Tech as a Professional Techie

Comment spam policy.

I have both Akismet and re-Captcha running on my blog. re-Captcha does a good job filtering out automated comment spam, and Akismet does a good job filtering out comment spam that is written by hand. Why then do I get SENSELESS spam comments.

Information for spammers:

  • I’m sorry, I’m NOT egotistical enough to believe that my site creates groupies that live to give my a pat on the back for a site well done.  Examples:

    • “Hello. Great job. I did not expect this on a Wednesday. This is a great story. Thanks!”  — This was posted on a Sunday, by the way.
    • “Great Blog post. I am going to bookmark and read more often. I love the Blog template”
  • I don’t buy the idea that you had to work up the nerve to finally comment on a blog post of mine.  Especially one that’s pretty much a bookmark:

    • “I finally decided to write a comment on your blog. I just wanted to say good job. I really enjoy reading your posts.
There have been a couple of instances where the link provided in the comment alone identified the comment as spam.  However, the comment itself was insightful enough or relevant enough that I allowed the comment spam.  If you’re going to use my page for SEO voodoo, the least you could do is help contribute to the content a little.

Thank you.

(Anyone want to offer a prediction in comments on when this page gets spammed?)
